Join us for this unique Besom broom workshop and delve into the fascinating hiistory and folklore surrounding this timeless tool.
The Besom broom has always been a useful gardener’s tool for sweeping autumn leaves off lawns. It carries rich associations with witches, witchcraft, and magical Halloween traditions?
It also wards off any negative energy or spirits from your homes, when propped across your doorway or hearth.
The workshop is on Saturday 19th October @ 10am -3.30pm .
Your tutor, local crafter and artist, Heather McDermot, will guide you through the various practical processes involved. This includes carving and whittling your own locally foraged birch or rowan shaft…the use of axes and whittling tools firepits.. as well the application of special salves alleged to have protective qualities, warding off

Finding us
Helen’s Bay is accessed via the A2 Belfast/Bangor carriageway.
Drive down the Craigdarragh Road for 0.8 miles. You will see the Walled Garden on your left.
Turn left at the 30mph speed limit sign.
Drive down our temporary stoned driveway and park
Turn left out of the car park and walk up the laneway
Old Mill House will be the 1st entrance on the right.
